The Massillon Recreation Center, located at 505 Erie St. is owned and operated by the Massillon Parks and Recreation Department, in Massillon Ohio. A construction contract was agreed to in 2004, and building construction was funded by the passage of a 3/10 of 1% income tax levy that was passed in 1995 to assist with the expansion of the Parks and Recreation system. Construction was completed in 2006.
This is a 58,000 Square Foot Recreation Center complex featuring:
The Massillon Recreation Center is one of the major building complexes that we have constructed in the past. The recreation center, which sits on a massive 69 square acres of land in the heart of Massillon, and attracts a large number of daily visitors because of the availability of different recreational facilities; hence it offers the community more than 500 events and programs every year.
The recreation center includes a large aquatics and fitness center that alone sits on about 10,000 square feet of land, four community rooms that can be used for different purposes and are of different sizes, various general offices for the department of Parks and Recreation, catering kitchens, 3 locker suites; for family, men, and women, an indoor walking track, gymnasium/fitness/weight/aerobics training rooms, a spacious parking lot that accommodates up to 200 cars, the ‘0 depth’ swimming pool used by toddlers or infants, and several multipurpose rooms.
In addition, the young audience are usually attracted by the game rooms, the kiddie pool and play area, the two lane lap swimming pool, splash down pool meant for dual slide system, the two 20 inch water slides, two full sized basketball/volleyball courts made of hardwood, the toddler water play area, and the elevated running track. Groups and sports leagues usually make use of the volleyball and basketball courts within the center because of their location, and convenience in terms of size. As for groups, the center offers full kitchen facilities for group lunches.
The community rooms, which are large enough to hold 72 people each, have an attached kitchen for each room which makes them ideal for parties, banquets, and events. However, for a larger number of gatherings, the rooms are built in a way that combining them is easy so as to accommodate the number. The biggest room available is constructed to accommodate 150 people. So, the Massillon recreation center is a place where both the young and the elderly can find entertainment that lasts all day.
